When it’s come to Carbon Brush mostly people are want to know that what is the role of the carbon brush? Why we are using it? Who are the Carbon Brush Manufacturer? Why it compulsory? And so on, there is lots of explanation in the market about it but the main role of the carbon brushes is to make a contact on a moving part to flow through it and to connect a stationery part.

For example the carbon brushes are placed on the commutator of the Armature when it rotates, the carbon brushes makes a contact and connect the stator windings. Mainly in DC motors where wound type of Armature exists, the carbon brushes play a vital role in making a connection to the stationery field windings.

The disadvantage of the carbon brushes is wear and tear problem, needs repair and maintenance also a replacement after sometime. Carbon brushes are spring loaded to make a firm contact on the commutator. And due to the carbon emissions on the commutator and on the field windings, requires a periodical maintenance, to clean the commutator and stator. And due to the long usage of the motors, a spark is produced between the commutator and carbon brushes. But if we do it in a right way then there will be no harm.
