The tiny component of a motor or generator that transfers electrical current from the stationary wires (stator) to the revolving wires (rotor) is referred to as a carbon brush, also known as a motor brush. Typically composed of one or more carbon blocks, the brush may also have one or more shunts or terminals.
Typically, a motor has many carbon brushes to carry electrical current. The brushes are divided into five brush-grade families, with one suitable for each application.
A carbon brush has three operating parameters: mechanical, electrical, and physical/chemical.
