Slip rings in motors , which are utilised in DC motors, are sometimes mistaken with commutators. Commutators must be employed in DC motors to provide a changing magnetic field since DC power never changes polarity. As the rotor turns, the polarity will reverse, creating a magnetic field that drives the DC motor, as seen below.

For AC motors, commutators are not necessary since AC (alternating current) is polarity-changing by nature. There is also no requirement for slip rings, which resemble commutators but lack the gaps, for the motor to function. Slip rings or brushes are probably not present in an AC motor.
